Poopie Prison
Tuesday, March 15th, 2005NEWS : Pathetic Prison Tale!
It is another field fest for the all knowing Philippine media vultures. Guess what? Abu Sayyaf inmates took over two (2) floors of the maximum security detention quarter at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City. The SUPPOSEDLY secured jail facility was overpowered early last Monday (14 March 2005) when the detained terrorists, who have strong ties to the Al Qaeda global network, attempted a breakout seizing guns and killing two (2) prison guards and wounding many along the way. Two (2) on their side also died during the initial incident. Negotiations were made for the surrender of the acquired pistols as the fearsome radicals turned to their non-affiliated high-profile inmates and took them hostage as well (now this is really BIZARRE)! Talks failed and the standoff persisted till nightfall. As hundreds of police had surrounded the facility, sharpshooters positioned themselves on the rooftops while armored transports parked in front of the main gate and the media men scourge over the open fields interviewing officials and rank officers. Also on the nearby hill are local children playing carelessly unmindful of the growing intensity.
Whether this be a matter of concern regarding lax security, dilapidated facilities or just plain STUPIDITY, the media frenzy will always have its way of making sure the ill fate of our country gets sensationalized throughout the world in a jiffy! Now this is very good way of promoting our country eh? (I was being sarcastic here…) Why can’t they just SHUT UP? Why can’t the government implement an effective media blackout? Or better yet, why can’t our politicians stop their selfless self promotion by just not intervening in matters they don’t even have a clue of?
Anyway, the prison revolt came to an end the following day (thank God the agony!) resulting into the additional deaths of three (3) top Abu Sayyaf leaders, one (1) policeman and (consider this as COLLATERAL) eighteen (18) other unidentified prisoners. Minimal damage was done on the police force as only six (6) got wounded in the final encounter. As Administration military poster boy now Head of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Secretary Angelo Reyes said, “the crisis is over”… Or is it really?
“Just bomb the freakin’ place already!” (a ‘trigger-happy’ viewer)
